East Kentucky Miners News Release
PIKEVILLE, KY - Nikki Alexander, AKA Hoopz, was a star basketball player at Woodhaven High School in Brownstone, Mich., where she graduated. A professional model and television personality, Hoopz became the celebrity supporter of the East Kentucky Miners throughout the 2007-08 season, during the team's debut campaign. The Michigan native was a regular at Miners games inside the East Kentucky Expo Center, cheering on friend James "Boo" Jackson and the rest of the East Kentucky professional basketball team. A former Flavor of Love winner, Hoopz is now in another show. Hoopz is one of the 17 contestants in the VH1 reality show I Love Money, which features returning contestants from past VH1 reality shows such as Flavor of Love, I Love New York, and Rock of Love with Bret Michaels. The contestants compete in physical and mental challenges en route to a grand prize of $250,000. Hoopz was an immediate fan favorite at Miners home games. Miners Coach Kevin Keathley had an opportunity to first meet Hoopz during the summer of 2007 in a workout featuring Jackson. "I'm really excited about this upcoming show starring Hoopz," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "She is very much a part of the East Kentucky Miners basketball family. It's no different than if she was one of my players - I'm going to cheer her on in whatever she does." Hoopz was a fixture around East Kentucky Miners practices during the preseason and season. She didn't hesitate when the opportunity came to jump in and participate with the men's professional basketball team. "Hoopz came to a lot of our practices during the season," Keathley confided. "There were even times when I had the players running the arena stairs and Hoopz joined in and ran with them. She was sore after running with the guys. Hoopz made a very positive impact on our team last season. She was one of our biggest fans and always cheered us on win or lose." In 2006, Hoopz was cast as one of the contestants and became the eventually winner of the VH1 reality show Flavor of Love season 1. The show pits 20 ladies for rapper Flavor Flav's love as they live together in a California mansion for almost two months. Hoopz was chosen by Flav over Tiffany Pollard, also known as New York, who was eventually given her own reality show. In the reunion special, however, barely a month after the airing of the finale, Hoopz revealed that she and Flav were no longer together. After the show, Hoopz continued to pursue a career in modeling, having appeared in several calendars and magazines. She is affiliated with three different modeling agencies and has appeared in a couple of music videos - Will Smith's "Party Starter" and Lil' Keke's "Chunk Up The Deuce." Hoopz further developed a strong worldwide fanbase in Eastern Kentucky. She ranks as one of the top reality show stars of all-time. "I had the opportunity to speak briefly to Hoopz while she was filming the show and I believe she's going to do really well in this type of competition," Keathley added. "I encourage all of Eastern Kentucky to support Hoopz just like she supported the Miners and hopefully she can walk away with the 250,000 dollar prize." I Love Money is set to premiere on VH1 at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 13. Craig J. Jackson will host the 12-episode series.
