East Kentucky Miners News Release

PIKEVILLE, KY. - After guiding his team to a winning debut season in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association), East Kentucky Miners head coach Kevin Keathley is preparing for the organization's second free agent camp.

The franchise's first free agent camp, held Aug. 4, 2007 at the Pikeville College Gym, attracted former University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, Western Kentucky University and Eastern Kentucky University players, among others. Last year, basketball hopefuls from as far away as Texas traveled to Eastern Kentucky to vie for a spot on the Miners' training camp roster. Excitement is building for the 2008-09 season. This year's East Kentucky Miners free agent camp is scheduled for Sept. 6 at the East Kentucky Expo Center. The early registration fee for the professional basketball free agent camp is $75. Early registration is being held through Sept. 5. The registration fee is $125 for those who register on the day of the camp.

Acceptable forms of payment are money order and cash. Money orders should be sent for the early registration. Cash or money order will be the only acceptable form of payment. No checks will be accepted during any of the registration period. Money orders should be made payable to East Kentucky Miners.

The camp will be comprised of two sessions - 9 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. A one-hour lunch period will be held prior to the start of the second and final session. "Last year's free agent camp was a good one - we had a solid turnout at Pikeville College," said Keathley. "This is the perfect opportunity for local talent to show up and compete for a veteran's camp roster spot."

Former University of Louisville standout Bryant Northern was a player who made the most of last year's free agent camp experience. Northern, following a free agent camp stint, eventually signed with the Miners. The Indiana native was the starting point guard for the East Kentucky team in its debut game. "Last year, Bryant Northern came to the tryouts and displayed the ability to play for us," Keathley added. "He ended up signing a one year deal. He not only signed with us but started several games as well. "We're not looking for superstars. If we find one, then great. What I'm looking for is players that can play roles and help us build a team. Last year's team was a group of guys that played together and represented the Miners uniform with class. The expectations are high in terms of the type of player/person we want. I owe it to the guys that wore the uniform last season to carry on what they have helped build."

For those who choose to register on the day of the camp, registration will begin at 8 a.m. that morning. Lunch will not be provided as part of the camp.

The one-day free agent camp is invitation-only to the general public. Media members who contact the Miners public relations department will be permitted to attend either or both of the sessions.

All players should send a resume with their registration form. Players should also bring a second copy of their resume to the free agent camp. Game video - if available - is also encouraged. Payment and application materials should be sent to East Kentucky Miners Basketball, LLC., c/o Coach Kevin Keathley, 237 2nd Street Pikeville, Ky. 41501.
