Eagles Will Host Fire with a Win Tuesday

Charlotte, NC -- The US Open Cup has announced the locations for potential third round match ups in the 2013 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The Charlotte Eagles will host Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire next Wednesday, May 29th at 7 pm at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC with a win over the Sounders FC U23 team this coming Tuesday.
The Chicago Fire have won four US Open Cup's in their franchise history. This year is the 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and features a field of 68 teams, the largest field in the modern era (1995-present). In the 99 year history of the cup the Fire are one of only six teams to capture the title four or more times.
The US Open Cup is widely regarded as US Soccer's National Championship, as the yearly tournament is open to all teams affiliated with the US Soccer Federation. The winner of the Open Cup is given a berth into the CONCACAF Champions League, CONCACAF is the governing body of North America, Central America and Caribbean soccer, where they will play for a chance to go to the FIFA Club World Cup and compete against the best teams in the world.
"From our point of view this tournament is important for several reasons," said Fire COO Atul Khosla. "We obviously have a history of success in the tournament and because of that tradition, it holds a special meaning with our supporters."
"More recently, the winning club receives an automatic bid to play in the CONCACAF Champions League next season and with that, the potential to be the first MLS side to go to the FIFA Club World Cup."
"Our goal is to give the club as many opportunities as possible to add trophies and compete against the best competition in the world."
If the Sounders FC U23's beat the Eagles then they would travel to Toyota Park in Chicago to face the Fire. So make sure to come out this Tuesday, May 21st and support your Eagles as they try and advance in the 2013 US Open Cup!
Tickets for the Sounders FC U23 game, if purchased online, are $7.50 for Adults and $5.50 for Youth plus fees.
