Charlotte Eagles News Release
Charlotte, NC - Coming off a hard fought win against Wilmington Thursday night, the Charlotte Eagles ended their weekend road trip with a stop over in Richmond.
The University of Richmond Stadium was the setting for Independence Day festivities as the Richmond Kickers hosted Charlotte Eagles before a good 4th of July crowd.
It did not take long for Richmond to set the pace of the game as Forward David Bulow, in the 10 minute, receiving the ball from William Yomby successfully found the back of the net.
The Eagles, trying to answer, were able to test Ronnie Pascale, the keeper, on a number of occasions; before Gerson Dos Santos broke free going 1 on 1 with Eagles keeper Steward Ceus, who made a valiant first save, but Dos Santos found the deflection making his second effort count in the 34 minute.
With momentum favoring Richmond, David Bulow capitalized on a corner kick in the 39 minute, bringing the score to 3-0.
Jorge Herrera had his chance, in the 42 minute, with a set piece 22 yards out, took aim and just missed the crossbar. Pressure from the Eagles forced a dangerous tackle by Richmond's defender William Yomby ending in a red card and ejection.
The second half began with Richmond up 3-0, but down a man. Charlotte took control and maintained possession most of the second half as Richmond fell back to protect their lead. With much pressure and the Eagles out shooting Richmond 11-8 they were not able to capitalize. The game resulted in a 3-0 victory for Richmond.
The Eagles host Western Mass on July 11, 2009 at 8:00 PM, at Charlotte Christian Stadium. The game will be part of a doubleheader as the Lady Eagles host the Cary Lady Clarets at 5:30 PM.
