Eagles Take on Charleston in Back to Back

July 5, 2012 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release

The Charlotte Eagles look forward to back to back games against the Charleston Battery. The two night battle begins in Charleston Friday night at Blackbaud Stadium at 7:30 PM. Both teams will then travel to Charlotte for round two on Saturday July 7, 2012 at Charlotte Christian Stadium.

The Eagles are coming off consecutive wins in USL PRO league play against Richmond and LA. The Eagles may be hitting stride too deep into the season but now is as good a time as any to fight for life in the playoffs.

The Eagles have found ways to score goals, with Christian Meza scoring twice in as many games. Mauricio Salles scored one of the three goals last Saturday night against the Blues. He also scored the lone goal in the quarterfinals against Chivas USA.

Charleston is coming off a long trip from Antigua. Though the Barracudas came up short in game one they were able to interrupt a 3 game winning streak and take the second game with a 2-0 shutout.

Since the return of the Charleston Battery to the USL Second Division in 2010 and the creation of the USL PRO in 2011 the Charlotte Eagles have not been able to claim a victory against them.

If the Eagles want a chance at the 2012 USL PRO playoffs they must find a way to beat Charleston.

Saturday night is part of a doubleheader. The Eagles are celebrating TAKIS night. Wear purple and qualify for a drawing to win a grill.

The Eagles will also partner with Project 658. We will be collecting blankets and packbacks. You can participate by bringing new or gently used blankets, backpacks and school supplies. You will also have the option of donating $10 to sponsor a backpack.

Lady Eagles vs Central SC Cobras at 5:30 PM, Charlotte Christian Stadium. The Charlotte Eagles vs Charleston Battery at 8:00 PM.
