Here is a recap of Game's 1 and 2 from EUPNews.com.
Game 1: Soo Eagles 4, Port Huron Fighting Falcons 2 - Friday, April 12
You would excuse the Soo Eagles if they were a bit rusty on Friday night. After all, they hadn't played a game in 13 days, while Port Huron came off a hard-fought series last weekend against Johnstown.
No excuse needed. The Eagles swarmed out to a 2-0 first period lead, and after losing their lead, scored the final two goals, and earned a 4-2 victory in Game 1 of their North American Hockey League North Division semifinal. Pat Thompson scored the winning goal for the Eagles at the 6:28 mark of the second period. Chris Waterstreet, who was named the games first star, scored two goals and was aggressive the entire night. Waterstreet's tallies came at 7:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 for the Eagles, and 14:50 into the second, to give the home team their final goal. Alexander Taulien scored the other goal for the Eagles. The Fighting Falcons were led by Rick DeRosa, who tallied one goal and one assist. DeRosa scored 16:15 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Jonathan Kopacka assisted on the tally. Port Huron also got a goal from Brett DAndrea as well. More assists for Port Huron came via Bobby Brown, who had one. Tyler Marble recorded 19 saves for the Eagles. Port Huron's Max Milosek stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced.
Game 2: Soo Eagles 4, Port Huron 1 - Saturday, April 13
The Soo Eagles took a commanding 2-0 series lead of their best-of-five North American Hockey League's North Division semifinal on Saturday night, as Tyler Marble made 33 saves, and the Eagles had four different goal scorers, in their 4-1 victory over the Port Huron Fighting Falcons, in front 916 fans at Pullar Stadium. Port Huron's Ian Miller, who is also a Lake Superior State University tender, scored 14 seconds into the game, to give his team the early advantage. This would be the only time that Tyler Marble would be beat on the night, as he earned the the game's first star. The Eagles tied the game at the 16:38 mark of the first period, as gritty Matt Menta scored the goal, with an assist from Alex Robert. The game-winning goal was scored by Eric Rivard, who scored on the power-play at the 11:24 mark of the second period to lift the Eagles to a 2-1 lead. Kyle Loridon played one of his games of the season on Saturday night, and was rewarded with the third Eagles goal, with an assist from Cody Von Rueden at 17:33 of the second period to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Sean Murphy would add an insurance tally at the 18:12 mark of the third period to make the final score 4-1 in favor the Eagles, and a win away from the North Division Finals. The Eagles had many more extra-man advantages than on Friday night and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Port Huron was 0-for-2. The Eagles fired 37 shots on Fighting Falcons net minder, Alex Blankenburg. Game 4, if necessary, would be Friday night in Port Huron, while if there is a Game 5, it will be in the Soo on Monday, April 22.
