Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush wrapped up their regular season against the Colorado Eagles at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday, March 21, 2009, where the Rush hosted "Fan Appreciation Night". The Rush were coming off an exciting 6-4 victory over the Eagles from the night before but unfortunately, the Rush wouldn't be able to make it a sweep as they fell to the Eagles, 6-2.

Goaltenders Miguel Beaudry and Morgan Cey both saw a lot of action all through the first period. Colorado was the first to tally a point on the board as Brett Hammond was able to get the puck past Beaudry for a powerplay goal. Hammond was assisted by Ed McGrane and Fraser Filipic at 2:54. The Rush would respond nearly a minute later when Joey Olson would find the back of the net at the 3:47 mark into the period. The scoring action wouldn't stop as at 4:54, the Eagles would tally another goal courtesy of Steve Haddon. Haddon was assisted by Ryan Tobler and Scott Polanski. Both goaltenders saw plenty of shots as Rapid City fired 15 shots at Cey, and Colorado fired 14 at Beaudry. Rapid City would even out the score with a goal from Stephens, who had tallied an assist on the first goal. Stephens's powerplay goal was assisted by Jon Pelle and Jamie VanderVeeken, and it came at 17:27 in the initial frame. Colorado would respond at 17:34, with a shorthanded goal from Ryan Tobler and Erik Adams. The tight period would end with the Eagles on top, 3-2.

The middle frame was one to forget for the Rapid City Rush as they failed to add any points to their side of the board. Even with a change in the net, as Lanny Ramage took over, the Rush couldn't slow down the Eagles offense. Just 0:33 into the period, Aaron Grosul found the back of the net with a powerplay goal. Grosul was assisted by Erik Adams and Filipic. The Eagles would tally another goal at 13:39 as Konrad Reeder got the puck past Ramage. Reeder was assisted by Adam Hogg for the shorthanded goal. Rapid City actually led the period in shots, 11- 10, but would not add any more points as the Eagles ended with period with a 5-2 lead.

In the third, the Rush wouldn't regain any momentum. Rapid City would fire 16 shots at Cey, but none of those converted to points on the board. Colorado got the sole goal of the game as Aaron Schneekloth found the back of the net at 10:35 into the period. Schneekloth's powerplay goal was assisted by Tobler and Reeder, solidifying the Eagle win, 6-2.

The Rapid City Rush end their season with a 22-33-9 record, good enough for third place in the Northwest division. The game marked the 10th sellout crowd at the Civic Center Ice Arena.

After the game, the Rush auctioned off their warm-up jerseys sponsored by Riddle's Jewelry, with the money going to Big Brothers/Big Sisters & Youth & Family Services of Rapid City.
