April 24, 2013 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC --The Charlotte Eagles are set to play host to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Friday, April 26th at 7 pm at Queens Sports Complex. Pittsburgh is looking for their first victory of the 2013 USL PRO season and should come into Friday's game hungry for three points.

Nate Thornton grabbed a 90th minute equalizer in the game against Orlando on Tuesday, April 23rd to keep the Eagles undefeated in three USL PRO games.

Thornton put Lions goalkeeper Sean Kelley under pressure after a long outlet pass and calmly put the ball in the back of the net to secure the draw. The Eagles came out of the halftime break with more energy in their attack and kept the pressure on the Lions throughout the 2nd half. The game was a rough one as there were seven yellow cards and 39 fouls between the two teams.

Charlotte is looking to end its opening four game homestand before heading to Richmond Saturday, May 4th and then to the west coast to play Los Angeles and Phoenix at the end of May. The Eagles are currently 1-0-2 on the season and are sitting in 6th place with 5 points so far.

Pittsburgh is coming off their own late game drama as the Dayton Dutch Lions would find the winner in 2nd half stoppage time to earn a 2-1 win against the Riverhounds. Midfielder Kevin Kerr scored the lone Pittsburgh goal against the Dutch Lions in the 45th minute of the contest. The Riverhounds are looking to rebound from the Dayton game for their first win of the season as they are 0-2-1 on the year.

Justin Evans is in his third season as manager of the club. Evans was the first player ever signed by the Riverhounds when they formed back in 1999. Asheville, North Carolina native Hunter Gillstrap is in his third season as Riverhounds goalkeeper. In 2012 Gillstrap recorded three shutouts and also ranked in the top 3 in the league with 92 saves. Kevin Kerr, a Scottish midfielder, joined the Riverhounds this season following a season with SC Wiedenbr-ck, a 4th tier German league side. Kerr is tied with Colombian forward Jose Angulo for the team lead in scoring with one goal apiece.

Last season the Eagles were 2-0-0 against Pittsburgh while scoring five goals and conceding none.
