Eagles Host Carolina Dynamo in US Open Cup Action

Charlotte, NC - The Eagles face the Carolina Dynamo of the Premier Development league as part of the clubs run in the 2014 US Open Cup. Wednesday marks the start of the second round of games for the US Open Cups, with the first round being played the previous week.

The Eagles are currently sitting at 5 th in the USL PRO standings with 9 points, they are tied up the Orange County Blues after their 2-0 road victory against the Blues this previous Thursday. There are four teams currently tied for 4 th place with 10 points (Arizona United SC, Rochester Rhinos, Sacramento Republic, and Charleston Battery).

In the Eagles' last game they traveled to the West Coast to face the Orange County Blues where they took a 2-0 victory with goals from Drew Yates and Ben Newnam, Yates also tallied an assist on Newnam's goal. Yates currently leads the team and USL PRO in assists with five and is second highest on the team with nine points and appearing in all of the teams seven matches.

The Eagles play their first game of the Open Cup this Wednesday May 14 th against the Carolina Dynamo and the winner of the match will make the short trip up to Cary N.C. to play the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League in the third round of the Cup on May 28th. The winners of the 2013 season US Open Cup were D.C. United of the MLS.

Charlotte has played the Dynamo twice in US Open Cup history. In 2011 goals from Darren Toby, Diego Martins and Allan Sanchez led the Eagles to a 3-1 win over the host Dynamo. In 2004's matchup two goals from Jacob Coggins in the first 11 minutes weren't enough as the Dynamo would score four unanswered and advance to the 2nd round with a 4-2 win.

Tickets are still available for the game this Wednesday at 7pm. If tickets are purchased ahead of the game, up until midnight Wednesday morning, they are $7.50 for Adults and $5.50 for Children.
