Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC: After a long rain delay the Charlotte Eagles and Pittsburgh Riverhounds were able to get under way at 10:30 PM at Charlotte Christian Stadium. The Charlotte Eagles were able to extend their win streak to five off the lone goal from Devon Grousis in the 34th minute and the stoppage time goal by Chris Salvaggione.

Pittsburgh started off strong, testing Eric Reed early, but were not able to come up with goal. Charlotte did not have a real chance until a dangerous play by Nikola Katic in the 33rd minute against Cheyne Roberts. Katic was issued a red card putting Pittsburgh down a man.

Mauricio Salles took the free kick 30 yards out and drove the ball right through the center of the box, finding Grousis. Grousis was able to beat out his defender in the air and redirected it past the keeper putting the Eagles up 1-0 in the 34th minute.

Pittsburgh continued to play aggressive throughout the rest of the game giving the Eagles a real scare in the 39th minute as the ball drilled the crossbar.

Ben Page and Chris Salvaggione's fresh feet produced a couple near misses deep into the second half.

Though Pittsburgh continued a man down, they were able to keep the game rather wide open, but to no avail.

The Eagles sealed the deal deep into stoppage time as Salvaggione was able to flick it past Pittsburgh's keeper, giving the Eagles a 2-0 victory.

Catch the Eagles at home next weekend. The Eagles host the Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Charlotte Christian Stadium at 7:00 PM. Purchase your tickets online at www.charlotteeagles.com.
