Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles opened their 2013 USL PRO season with a 2-0 win against visiting Antigua Barracuda FC. The Eagles were lead by goals from Nate Thornton and rookie Christian Ramirez.

Antigua would come close in the 12th minute with a shot that would go just high and wide from Lloyde Jeremy. The teams would trade possession in the first 20 minutes.

Nate Thornton sent a rocket past Molvin James, the Antiguan goalkeeper, in the 27th minute, putting the Eagles on top 1-0.

The Eagles came close in the 37th minute as Ben Newnam would have a shot from a corner cleared off the line. A yellow would be shown to Eugine Kirwan in the 40th after a hard tackle on Juan Guzman. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in to the half.

Christian Ramirez got the Eagles off to a fast start in the second half as he took a through ball and sent one off the crossbar. Ramirez would then earn his first professional goal in the 85th minute. Former Barracuda Stefan Smith made an appearance against his former team replacing Christian Ramirez following his goal.
