
Eagles Clinch Playoff Berth with 5-0 Victory

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles clinched their first playoff berth for the first time since 2009. Drew Yates led the way for the Eagles attack, finishing with one goal and two assists to lead the Eagles to a 5-0 win against Antigua Barracuda FC. The Eagles also received goals from Jorge Herrera twice, Stephen Okai and Paul Islas. Goalkeeper Eric Reed recorded his eighth shutout on the season.
Charlotte opened the scoring in the 12th minute as Christian Ramirez found Jorge Herrera who then beat Molvin James to open the scoring for the Eagles. Stephen Okai increased the lead to 2-0 for Charlotte as he took a Yates pass at the top of the penalty area and fired a rocket past James who was frozen to his spot. Drew Yates got in on the scoring act in the 38th minute as he took a pass from Christian Ramirez and buried his chance. The game headed to the half with Charlotte in control 3-0.
The Eagles kept the pressure on in the 2nd half as Jorge Herrera scored a brace in the 55th minute. Drew Yates kept possession along the end line and found Herrera in the penalty area where the Colombian was able to finish his 10th goal of the season.
Second half sub Paul Islas scored the third goal of his professional career in the 88th minute to cap the scoring on the night. Islas took an outlet pass and dribbled around his defender before slotting the ball in the far right corner.
Charlotte now sits in 4th place in the USL PRO Standings. The top four teams at the end of the year will host a playoff game. Charlotte travels to VSI Tampa Bay FC and Orlando City SC to close out the 2013 regular season next weekend.
