Eagles Begin 2013 Preseason

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles have kicked off the 2013 season with their first official preseason training yesterday at Warner Park. Head Coach Mark Steffens, along with assistants Steve Shak and Dave Dixon, put the team through the paces and had a few thoughts after the first day.
"We had a great start to our preseason today" said Head Coach Mark Steffens. "We worked on a lot of possession at training to get an idea of the new guys ability. Another key was just getting the guys playing together to work on team chemistry. We have a lot of new faces this year so the quicker we can get everyone on the same page the better start to the season we can have."
Veteran goalkeeper Eric Reed is back in net for the Eagles and is joined by Alonso Jimenez, who played last season with the West Texas Sockers of the USL PDL and Brock Duckworth, previously of the Charleston Battery, this season.
A friendly face, Brady Bryant, returns to the defense for 2013, after missing the entire 2012 season due to injury. Also manning the backline for the Eagles are Ben Newnam and Fejiro Okiomah. Both players are entering their rookie seasons in the USL PRO after finishing their collegiate careers in the triad at Wake Forest and High Point.
Eagles veterans Juan Guzman and Joseph Kabwe are back in the midfield. First year Eagles Matt Gold, Juan Nino, Will Prado and Drew Yates will give Coach Steffens plenty of options in the midfield as well.
The 2013 forwards group include Eagles veterans Ben Page and Nate Thornton. Rookie forward Christian Ramirez will help bolster the goal-scoring options for the team.
