Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Governors' Cup champion Colorado Eagles announced today the signing of goaltenders Andrew Penner and Michael Mole. Penner returns to the team for his second consecutive season, while Mole brings plenty of AHL and ECHL experience to solidify the duo.
As the Eagles' starting netminder last season, Penner had a career year, posting a 30-6-2 record along with a goals-against average of 2.69 and a save percentage of .915 (both ranking sixth in the league) -- all were personal career highs for a full season. Penner was also a finalist for the league's Most Outstanding Goaltender award and tied for first in the voting by his peers as top goalie in the league's annual 'Best of the Best' poll.
Mole brings parts of five years of professional goaltending experience to Colorado, all at the AHL or ECHL levels. In that time, the 5-foot-11-inch, 178-pound goalie composed a solid save percentage (.899) and goals-against average (3.40) while playing for six different franchises.
"Andrew Penner is one of the top goalies in the Central Hockey League, and his presence and performance in net for us last season were big reasons for our success," said President & General Manager Chris Stewart. "Pairing Mole with Penner gives us possibly our strongest goaltending duo ever. He brings a wealth of experience and a contrasting style to Penner's -- both of which I think are important attributes in a goalie tandem."
