Charlotte Eagles News Release

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles hosted the USASA Lynch's Irish Pub FC tonight at UNC-Charlotte's TransAmerica Field in round one of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Tournament. The Eagles defeated a solid Lynch's Irish Pub FC team with some quality goalkeeping from Dan Benton, and goals from Dustin Swinehart and Jacob Coggins for the 2-0 win. Tonight's victory advances the Eagles to the second round of the tournament, where the Eagles will play the Atlanta Silverback in Atlanta on June 26th at 7:55 pm.

Dustin Swinehart scored the opening goal of the match in the 21st minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Ben Johnson set up the goal after Jacob Coggins recovered it in the midfield. Coggins shuffled the ball out to the right side onto the run of Johnson. Ben served a ball across the goal mouth to Swinehart who scored off the volley from about 10 yards out.

Jacob Coggins scored a second half goal for Charlotte to extend the lead to two goals. Ryan DiNunzio set up the goal with a beautiful pass from the left midfield onto the perfectly timed run of Coggins. Coggins all alone, touched the ball around the keeper and casually finished with a shot into the open net.

Dan Benton was the man of the match tonight earning eight saves for Charlotte this evening.

"They were a quality side and we expected them to be. I thought we played a very nice first half, but made some bad passes in the back half of the field in the second half, giving them some chances. We had some heavy legs in the second have with the string of road games lately, but I don't want to take anything away from Lynch's team. They played a solid match" commented Eagles head Coach Mark Steffens.

The Charlotte Eagles return to home field action on Saturday night at Waddell Stadium in a doubleheader evening with the Charlotte Lady Eagles. Saturday night is also Kick for the Cure Night, as the Eagles and Lady Eagles will be wearing special pink jerseys on an evening dedicated to helping the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from auctioning off the pink game jerseys and selling pink t-shirts through the end of the season will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure Charlotte, NC affiliate. The organizations vision: By focusing on breast health education and collaboration with local organizations, we will strive to save lives, improve breast health services and reach out to the underserved members in our community.

The Charlotte Lady Eagles match will kick off at 5:30 pm as the Lady Eagles host the Bradenton Athletics. The Eagles pro team match will follow at 8:00 pm, when the Eagles play host to the New Hampshire Phantoms. Tickets for the June 16th event can be purchased at the Charlotte Eagles website: www.CharlotteEagles.com. Tickets purchased prior to game day are sold at the $2.00 off advanced purchase discount price.
