Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles are pleased to announce the signing of former Major League Soccer defenders Bilal Duckett and Jonathan Leathers, pending league and USSF approval.

Duckett, 25, is a native of Peachtree City, GA and a former MLS draft pick of the Vancouver Whitecaps. He played collegiately for the University of Notre Dame where he was a two-year starter at right back. Duckett signed with the Harrisburg CIty Islanders in 2012 and appeared in 19 games, scoring one goal and adding two assists. He most recently played for the Rochester Rhinos after being loaned by the New England Revolution as part of the MLS-USL PRO partnership. Duckett appeared in 19 games for the Rhinos in 2012, scoring one goal.

"I can't wait to get started with the Eagles this season. It's going to be a very different experience for me, one that I think is going to challenge me both on and off the field," said Duckett. "This coaching staff has a lot of experience, and I plan on picking their brains as much as possible. The team's success in recent years speaks both to the strength of the coaching staff, and the level of talent that's in Charlotte. I'm eager to contribute and be a part of it all-- the soccer, the community outreach, everything."

Leathers, 28, is from Athens, GA and was selected 25th overall in the 2008 MLS Superdraft by the Kansas City Wizards and was picked by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 8th round of the 2010 MLS expansion draft. Leathers played collegiately at Furman University where he started all 73 games of his Paladin career, finishing with one goal and two assists in his collegiate career.

The Eagles now have Duckett and Leathers joining veterans Matt Gold, Jorge Herrera, Ben Newnam and Drew Yates, and first year Eagle Richard Dixon. Stay tuned Eagles fans as there are more signings to report every day!

Charlotte will return once again to Queens Sports Complex for the 2014 USL PRO season. The season kicks off on April 4th against the Dayton Dutch Lions.
