Dynamo Acquire Midfielder Eric Alexander from Montreal Impact

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo have acquired midfielder Eric Alexander from the Montreal Impact in exchange for general and targeted allocation money.

Alexander, 28, has made 178 career MLS appearances, including playoffs, since 2010. The Portage, Michigan native helped the New York Red Bulls win the 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield, appearing in all 34 regular-season games. He appeared in 80 consecutive regular-season games from October 27, 2012 to June 13, 2015 and started all five MLS Cup Playoff games for the Red Bulls after setting a career-high with nine assists in 2014.

"We're pleased to welcome a player of Eric's quality to our club," Dynamo VP/general manager Matt Jordan said. "He's a confirmed midfielder in this league, who brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success. He'll be a strong addition to our roster as we begin our push into the second half of the season."

The University of Indiana product started 12 games for the Impact this season, including five of the last six games. Alexander has made two appearances for the U.S. men's national team, facing Chile in January 2011 and South Korea in February 2014. He scored a goal against the Dynamo in the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals.
