Dynamic Forward Returns to Port City
October 28, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): Prolific and dynamic 6'7 forward Jermaine Blackburn returns to the Port City with some unfinished business in mind - an NBL Canada Championship.
Blackburn, who suited up late in 2012 for a playoff run against the eventual champs, the London Lightning, has agreed to return to the Mill Rats to bolster the forward slot that was weakened by the absence of Antonio Anderson. Anderson's return was prevented by a ruptured ear drum. His official addition to the roster is pending FIBA clearance.
In seven games with the Mill Rats, Blackburn averaged 16.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 59% shooting from the field. The Mill Rats narrowly dropped both games in a best-of-three series to the Lightning by an average margin of just 3.5 points.
"We are seeing high calibre players who want to be in Saint John," said Mill Rats President & General Manager Ian McCarthy. "Quality veterans like Anthony Anderson, Will Blalock, Tyrone Levett, and now Blackburn have made sacrifices to come here and win. That's unique and says alot about their motives and character."
The Mill Rats begin the 2013-14 season on Friday November 1st on the road in Halifax to face the Rainmen. The home opener is slated for Sunday November 10th at Harbour Station against the Island Storm. Season & flex tickets are on sale at the Mill Rats Fan Zone in Brunswick Square or at the Harbour Station Box Office by calling 506-657-1234.
