Dutton Beckett.com AFL Player of the Week
Published on January 31, 2006 under Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
DALLAS (January 31, 2006) --- In a rematch of last season's American Conference Championship Game, quarterback John Dutton ensured that the defending ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush would come out on top again, this time 65-56, with a dizzying statistical line that included 291 yards passing, eight touchdown passes and a rushing score.
For his performance, Dutton was selected as the Beckett.com AFL Player of the Week for Week 1. With the score tied, 56-56, Dutton produced the game-winner on an 11-yard touchdown pass to favorite target Damian Harrell with just one second left in the game.
It seems only fitting that Dutton - who was honored as the cover athlete for EA Sports' eagerly anticipated Arena Football, due out next week - would put up surrealistic, video-game numbers in a thrilling season-opening win over the Chicago Rush.
If EA Sports' premiere AFL release, on sale beginning Feb. 9, is even remotely as entertaining as Colorado's classic Week 1 win over Chicago, here's betting it won't be on store shelves for long.
