
Dusters Win Thriller 42-41

Amarillo, TX 7/18/09 - Your Amarillo Dusters came up with one of their most thrilling victories this season, defeating the Stockton Lightning 42-41 in the Amarillo Civic Center Saturday night.
Amarillo would outscore the Lightning in the first quarter 14-7, led by quarterback JULIAN REESE. He would throw a touchdown strike to wide receiver ALEX WATSON and rush for a score with no time remaining in the quarter.
The second frame saw Stockton fire right back with two touchdowns of their own, as quarterback CHAD CAVENDER would throw a 2-yard touchdown pass to fullback PETER TULIALUULUU and a 10-yard throw to wide receiver ETU MOLDEN. The Dusters would tie the game just before halftime, as CARL JOHNSON nabbed a 5-yard touchdown with 22 seconds to go in the first half. Halftime score 21-21.
Early in the third quarter, Amarillo wide receiver Alex Watson would earn two unanswered touchdown receptions, giving Amarillo the 35-21 lead. Lightning wide receiver TROY MCBROOM would catch his first touchdown of the game with 2:24 remaining on the clock. At the end of the third quarter Dusters 35 Lightning 28.
The star of the show in the fourth quarter was Stockton wide receiver Etu Molden. He would grab two touchdowns including the potential game-tying touchdown. The extra point by kicker STEPHEN IRVINE rang off the left goal post, keeping the score in favor of the Dusters 42-41. The Stockton offense would then receive the football with less than two minutes to go down by one. Stockton drove to the Amarillo 3-yard line and had to settle for a field goal attempt with 5 seconds remaining in the game. Irvine's 17-yard attempt was wide left. 42-41 was the final score, as the Dusters won their first game this season versus a non-Texas af2 club.
Amarillo will travel to Tulsa next Saturday to play their final game of the season versus the Tulsa Talons at 7pm. Catch the game live on 107.1 KPUR or online on af2 television.
