Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 5/29/09 - The Amarillo Dusters will travel over 1,200 miles Northwest this weekend, in their quest for their first road victory of the season. The Dusters will take on the Boise Burn for the first time in team history Saturday night at 8:05 PM.

Amarillo (1-7), will look to a familiar face to return to the starting quarterback position this week. Matt Bassuener will carry the Dusters, after his outstanding performance versus Iowa a week ago. In the second half alone, Bassuener was 11 of 16 for 171 yards and 4 touchdown strikes. Offensively, look for the Dusters wide receivers to be active, as they accounted for all 6 Amarillo touchdowns last week in Des Moines.

Boise (6-2), meanwhile, has won four of their last five games. The only two setbacks this season for the Burn have come at the hands of the undefeated Spokane Shock. Nevertheless, Boise boats the af2's second best third down conversion rate (59%), and has one of the more accurate passers in the af2. Quarterback Taylor Tharp has completed over two-thirds of his throws this season, racking up 40 touchdown passes in the process.

The matchup of the night will be between the Amarillo defensive line versus and Boise's offensive front. Amarillo only recorded one sack last week, and is ranked 23rd in sacks for this season. On the other hand, Boise is tied for least amount of sacks allowed (4) in the af2. "We must get to Tharp and throw him off his game," said Dusters head coach Ben Bennett. "If we can make Tharp's atmosphere hectic, our defense will shine Saturday night."
