Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 7/24/09 - The Amarillo Dusters will play their final game this season this Saturday night, as they travel to play the Tulsa Talons at 7pm.
With a win in Oklahoma, Amarillo (3-12), would earn consecutive victories and their first road win this season. The Dusters hope their leader and quarterback Julian Reese can continue his tare on the road. Reese has produced 12 touchdowns in only two road games this season. The Dusters offense will be without wide receiver Xavier Hair for the second straight week. He will be replaced by Carl Johnson who earned 2 touchdowns last week versus Stockton in only his second game with Amarillo.
Tulsa (12-3) comes into the game looking to solidify their spot in the National Conference's playoff picture. The third-seeded, Central Division champions have been struggling of late, losing two of their last three games. Quarterback Justin Allgood, one of the best offensive weapons in the af2, has completed just under two-thirds of his throws, while throwing 102 touchdown passes. He leads an offense that averages the most points scored per game this season (61.7/gm).
What to watch for: Amarillo's defensive backs versus Tulsa's wide receivers. Tulsa has three wide outs with over 900 yards receiving this year (Jeff Hughley, 1768 yards, Zac Edwards, 1105 yards, Carley Franklin 925 yards). The Amarillo pass defense ranks 16th out of 25 af2 teams, yielding 255 yards per game.
