Amarillo Venom News Release
Amarillo, TX 6/12/09 - The Amarillo Dusters will strive for their second consecutive victory tomorrow, as they take on the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings for the first time this season Saturday night at 7:05 PM.
Amarillo (2-8), will once again look to quarterback and recently new father, Julian Reese to lead the offense. Reese's offense earned a season-high 62 points versus Rio Grande Valley last week, along with 8 total individual touchdowns (7 passing, 1 rush). On the other side of the ball, defensive back Gerard Lewis will try and "one-up" himself from last week's impressive outing (6.5 tackles, 2 interceptions, a pass breakup, and a forced fumble). Gerard won the af2's Aaron's Defensive Player of the Week honors Tuesday.
The Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (5-5), tied for second place in the Southwest division, have won three of their last four games. The Battle Wings also scored a season-high game points total last week with 79 versus the Corpus Christi Sharks. Wide receiver Butchie Ibeh leads Bossier-Shreveport in scoring (128) with 21 total touchdowns despite playing in only 8 of the Battle Wings' 10 games this season.
The matchup to watch this week: Amarillo's defensive backs versus the Bossier-Shreveport wide receivers. Dusters Myron Newberry and Gerard Lewis have combined for 18 tackles and 3 interceptions in their last two games. Battle Wings wideouts Buchie Ibeh, PJ Berry, and Chavis McCollister have averaged a hair under 2 touchdowns each per game this season.
