Amarillo Venom News Release

TULSA, Oklahoma The Amarillo Dusters set out to shock the arenafootball2 community Saturday night when they traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to face the defending af2 champion Tulsa Talons and your Dusters did just that. In the Dusters first playoff game since the 2005 season, they drew the monumental challenge of taking on the defending champs in their building. The Dusters offense attacked the Talons defense all night long and held on for the 65-62 upset.

The Talons drew first blood with a 14-yard touchdown pass from QB Jon Fitzgerald to WR Kellen Allen. That score would not take long to answer as Dusters QB Julian Reese found WR Jim Lukowiak for a 17-yard score on the first play after the kickoff. The Talons would add field goal before Reese hit WR Bobby Chase for a 7-yard touchdown pass to end the first quarter with 14-10 Dusters lead.

Tulsa opened the second quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run by RB Jarrail Jackson to put the Talons up by 3 points. The Dusters would quickly regain the lead by posting back-to-back scores on a 3-yard touchdown run by Craig Fulton Jr. and a 28-yard pass from Reese to WR Brian Murph for a 28-17 lead. The two teams would trade scores again before Tulsa punched in an 8-yard touchdown pass from Fitzgerald to WR Jeff Hughley to cut Tulsa's deficit to four for a 35-31 Duster lead at halftime.

The Dusters scored on the opening possession of the second half with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Reese to Lukowiak. The Dusters defense held the Talons to a 30-yard field goal on their next possession. Reese would find Fulton Jr. for a 23-yard touchdown on the ensuing possession to post a 48-34 score. Tulsa scored just before the end of the third quarter to make it a one-possession game going into the forth quarter.

A nail biting forth quarter began with Reese finding Lukowiak for a 28-yard touchdown to put the Dusters on top by 14 points once again. The defending champions proved they would not go away quietly by quickly scoring a touchdown of their own. Jacob Felton hit one of the most important field goals of his career with the Dusters on their next possession to post a late forth quarter score of 58-48. Tulsa would score once again to pull within three. Reese silenced the Tulsa Convention Center crowd of over 3,000 with a beautiful touchdown run to provide the Dusters with the cushion they would need to secure the victory. Tulsa would tack on a touchdown of their own with nine seconds left in the game but failed to pull in the on-side kick and the game ended with the Dusters on top 65-62.
