
Dusters earn 65-62 upset win against defending ArenaCup Champions

The Talons hosted the Amarillo Dusters in the first round of the ArenaCup Championship playoffs Saturday night. The visiting Dusters came away with a 65-62 upset victory, ending the Talons run for their second straight ArenaCup Championship
The Talons were the first to put points on the board, after QB John Fitzgerald connected with WR Kellen Allen on a 14-yard TD pass. Amarillo answered in one play, a 17-yard TD pass from QB Julian Reese to Jim Lukowiak, tying the score 7-7. Talons Kicker, Luke Phillips, helped the Talons gain a three-point lead with a 27-yard field goal, but it wasn't enough to keep them on top. Amarillo's Bobby Chase scored on a 7-yard TD pass from Reese, closing out the quarter 14-10.
The Talons began the second quarter with a 2-yard TD run by Jarrail Jackson. Amarillo didn't waste time getting back into the lead, scoring back to back with a 3-yard TD run by Craig Fulton and on a 28-yard TD pass to Brian Murph from Reese, putting the score 28-17 Amarillo. Both teams traded scores to finish the quarter going into halftime, with one last quick connection from Talons Fitzgerald to Hughley on a 8-yard TD pass with just 9 seconds to go, putting the score at 35-31 Amarillo.
It was a back and fourth battle throughout the third quarter, with the Dusters scoring first on a 12-yard TD pass from Reese to Lukowiak. The Dusters defense held the Talons to a 30-yard field goal by Phillips. The Dusters offense retaliated with a 23-yard TD pass from Reese to Fulton. With 39 seconds left in the quarter, Talons Fitzgerald scampered for a 1-yard TD making the score 48-41 Amarillo going into the fourth quarter.
Amarillo started the fourth quarer with a 28-yard pass from Reese to Lukowiak. The Talons quickly responded with a TD pass from Fitzgerald to Ransom making the score 55-48 Amarillo. Amarillo went up by 10 on a 25-yard Felton field goal. The two teams traded scores with under a minute remaining but the Talons couldn't get the ball back in time to go for the win.
