Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, TEXAS- The Amarillo Dusters announced today the assignment from the arenafootball2 League Office of Joel Steele to the 2008 roster. Steele joins the team as a quarterback.
A four-year arena football veteran, Steele joins the Dusters after spending the last three seasons with the Louisville Fire, also of the af2.
"We needed a quarterback with some experience in arena football," said head coach, Chris MacKeown. "Joel definitely brings that experience to the table. I'm excited to see Joel come in and battle it out with Johnson for the starting quarterback position."
In 2007, Steele threw 381 passes for more than 2600 yards as the starting quarterback for the Louisville Fire. He battled through injuries on the road to lead the Louisville Fire to an opening round playoff victory against the 2006 ArenaCup champions, the Spokane Shock.
Prior to his 2007 starting debut, Steele was the back-up quarterback for Brett Dietz, the current starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. He also spent time backing up quarterback Matt Sauk, who also moved up to the AFL.
Steele attended college at Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. He played the quarterback position for the Raven's and was a three-time HCAC Offensive MVP. Steele currently holds 21 school records at Anderson University. He finished as the second all-time leading passer in the state of Indiana with more than 11,000 passing yards.
"We are in the process of building a team that Amarillo can be proud of," MacKeown said. "We look for great players with great character, and Joel will fit right into that mold."
The Amarillo Dusters are set to kick off the 2008 season with the home opener on April 5th. Season tickets are on sale now and you don't want to miss one action-packed minute! Call the Dusters box office at (806) 350-7277 or visit www.dustersfootball.com.
