Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Fort Worth, TX â Playing a vastly altered and improved Texas Rim Rockers team proved a battle for the Brevard Blue Ducks. Gone was first year coach - former NBA player Robert Reid. Gone also were many of the Rim Rockers players who helped Texas to a 0-11 start. In their place, a new team, fresh and hungry for their first win of the season. But the Blue Ducks had a fresh hungry player in their corner as well. Nat Burton, signed by Brevard just a few nights ago sparked the Ducks with 16 points off the bench, enabling the Blue Ducks to win their second game in a row, 126-115 in overtime. Tied at 97-97 in regulation, Brevard looked like the fresher team at the start of OT, going on a 6-0 run to open the extra period and never looking back, as they improved to 5-6 on the season. What was more impressive is that they did it without starting point guard Earl "Pep" Tyson, who fouled out of the game one minute into overtime. "We did it the hard way in the extra period," crowed Blue Ducks coach, Derek Howard. "You want your number one guy in there at that time, but some calls went against us. I'm real proud of the way the guys hung in there and didn't give up."
Terrence Shannon had another exceptional game. A night after scoring 24 against Pennsylvania, Shannon poured in 25 against Texas. He also had 10 rebounds. Rookie Adam Hall had his second straight strong game, totaling 22 points and 10 boards as well. Ike Spencer netted 18. The Blue Ducks head to Oklahoma next to take on the defending USBL champion, Oklahoma Storm on Wednesday night.
