ANAHEIM, Calif . - The Anaheim Ducks will hold a "HockeyFest" at Valley View Casino Center (3500 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110) from noon - 3 p.m. this Sunday, Feb. 22 to celebrate the return of professional hockey to San Diego. The Ducks announced last month the purchase and relocation of their American Hockey League (AHL) club from Norfolk, Va., to San Diego. The club will play home games at Valley View Casino Center beginning this fall (2015-16 regular season).
The free event will feature the official unveiling of the AHL club's name and logo. Ducks Owners Henry and Susan Samueli and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer will be on hand for the event. Sunday's festivities will include family-friendly activities such as street hockey, a hardest shot challenge, a Ducks jump castle (bounce house), face painting, balloon stations, a photo booth and much more. In addition, the Anaheim Ducks Power Players will be on hand along with members of the Ducks Street Team. There will also be local live music in the Stella Artois Lounge from 1 - 2 p.m.
All attendees will have the opportunity to be entered to win two tickets to the AHL team's home opener and a $100 gift card presented by Rockin Baja Lobster, a local restaurant and team partner. Complimentary hot dogs and soda will be available, along with t-shirts for the first 1,000 fans. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase at concession stands throughout the building.
HockeyFest will also feature guest appearances and an autograph session presented by GigTown, a local music mobile application and team partner based in San Diego. Hockey legend Willie O'Ree will be joined by former San Diego hockey players Martin St. Amour, BJ MacPherson and Brad Belland. Following the autograph session, a hockey panel moderated by Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton will take place in the Stella Artois Lounge at 2 p.m. The panel and Q&A session will include David McNab (Ducks Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations), Ari Segal (San Diego AHL President of Business Operations) and O'Ree and cover the past, present and future of hockey in San Diego.
