Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, FL â Home sweet home. It's a phrase not uncommon to many professional sports teams. Especially basketball teams, who typically win about three-quarters of their games at home.
"Three road losses to start the season. Whew, that's tough," said Robert Reid, head coach of the Blue Ducks. "We wanted to come home and get a âW' under our belts real bad."
And so it would be. The flock coming home to roost in Brevard and handing the Florence Flyers their second loss of the season, 105-97.
The Ducks were led by forward Robert Brown, who had another superb game, netting 34 points on 11 for 14 shooting from the field and 11 of 12 shooting from the free throw line. Nat Burton had another strong game with 18 points, while guard Tony Harris, returning to the starting lineup, tallied 14 points to go along with 6 assists.
Tai Crutchfield led the Flyers with 22 points.
As good as it was to be home, it wouldn't last long as Brevard prepared to board an early morning bus to take them to Florence, SC for the second game of their home-and-away series.
"We just got one game at home and then have to travel again," lamented team owner, Mike Richman. "That's four out of our first five on the road. And it doesn't make it any easier having to wake up early after a night game, drive the five hundred miles to Florence and then play the same team again the very next night. But we need to gut it out Friday. A victory there would give us some momentum for our next game, which is back home in Brevard."
That game back home will be against the Adirondack Wildcats next Tuesday, a team that put Brevard at 0-2 to begin the season after throttling them twice in back-to-back wins in New York.
Home will be sweet indeed if the Blue Ducks avenge their earlier losses with a win at the Clemente Center upon their return.
DUCK NOTES: Teddy Dupay joined the ESPN crew for the live radio broadcast of the game Thursday night. "I enjoyed myself," said Teddy. "The guys played great, but I can't wait to get back on the court."
NEXT GAME: Tuesday, April 27th at 7:00 PM against the Adirondack Wildcats.
PROMOTION: Basketball night, presented by Complete Business Solutions. The first 250 kids entering the game will receive a FREE glow-in-the-dark, mini basketball.
