Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 2, 2009) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish on Thursday with their second consecutive walk-off win, a 4-3 victory before a past-capacity crowd of 6,742 at Citibank Park.   Pitching was the story early on as Ducks' starter Troy Cate and Bluefish starter Kyle Jackson matched zeros until the rains came in the top of the sixth inning.   Cate struck out eight over five and two-thirds innings and Jackson fanned four in his five innings of work.   In the sixth, the Fish grabbed a 3-0 lead as they plated three runs on three hits off Ducks' reliever Robert Paulk.   Long Island got on the board in the eighth inning as Lew Ford singled home Juan Francia, who reached on a two out single. In the ninth, with the Flock trailing 3-1 and two runners on in scoring positon, John Pachot hit a bouncing ball right down the third base line. Third baseman Luis Lopez fielded it cleanly but threw it away allowing Victor Rodriguez to score from third and Kyle Reynolds to score all the way from second and the game was tied at three.   The score would remain the same until the 11th inning when Victor Rodriguez doubled off Bridgeport reliever Jonathan Plefka (1-1). After Dennis Donovan came in to run for Rodriguez, Johnny Hernandez ripped a single into left center field and the Ducks waddled off for the second consecutive night.

Billy Simas (4-1) picked up his second win in as many nights after nailing down the final two outs in the 11th frame.   The Ducks and Bluefish continue their series on Friday.
