Dubois County Rebounds, Defeats Terre Haute 3-1 with Late Heroics

The Dubois County Bombers responded in a big way Saturday night, after losing six straight games. Starting pitcher Ryan Rizzi (South Suburban College) was spectacular on the mound, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run en route to a 3-1 Bomber victory over the Terre Haute Rex.

For the second straight game, the Bombers' bats were lively. Three players had multi-hit games (Kolin Conner, Kirby Campbell, Jamie Skagerlind) and three others also added base knocks.

Dubois County took the early lead in the second inning, when Jamie Skagerlind (Bryant Univ.) singled to center to drive in T.J. Thomas (Hofstra). Lots of zeroes went up on the scoreboard until the top of the seventh, when Terre Haute tied the game after a Ryan Rizzi pitch got by catcher Brian Norwood, allowing Terre Haute's Chris Manning to score.

Despite this rare lack of concentration, the Bombers rebounded in the eighth with a two out rally. With Nick Stoia on second base, catcher Brian Norwood (Lewis Univ.) crushed the first pitch he saw over the first baseman's head for a double to give the Bombers the lead. They would add another insurance run after left fielder Kirby Campbell (Ball State) singled to score Norwood.

Ryan Rizzi came back out in the ninth, to close out the game and snap the Bombers' losing streak. With a 1-2-3 ninth inning, Rizzi ended the night striking out seven hitters and allowing just four hits. The Lansing, IL native runs his record to 1-2 and drops his ERA to a trifling 0.90.
