Dubois County Bombers News Release
The Dubois County Bombers are pleased to announce that Grant Bellak has been selected as field manager for the 2011 season. Bellak is currently an assistant coach at Concordia University in Chicago, and has been an assistant coach for the Bombers the past two summers. He holds a B.A. degree in education from Webster University, and specializes in outfield play, middle infield play, hitting, and base running.
As a collegiate player he had a career batting average of .310, played on three teams that were nationally ranked, and finished in the top ten nationally in stolen bases his sophomore year. As a player and coach his collegiate teams have averaged over 30 wins each season, and his teams have qualified for post-season play in five of the last six seasons.
John Bigness, principal owner and director of the Bombers, has these comments about Bellak's hiring: "Grant's been with us the past two summers as our top assistant and he was one of several candidates we interviewed for this position. Chris Barney, Gary Freymiller, and I were very deliberate in coming to a decision, and in the end, we felt Grant's experience in the league, enthusiasm, and commitment to a baseball coaching career was a great fit for us. He's smart, dedicated, passionate, and well organized. He let us know in no uncertain terms that he wanted the job, and I think that's really important. He's not a big yeller and screamer, but more of a teacher who can be vocal if needed. I'm excited for him and the Bombers. I think he will represent us well on the field and in the community."
"I'm very excited about this opportunity to return to Dubois County and I look forward bringing an exciting atmosphere back to League Stadium," says Bellak. "This [2011] team has something to prove. We don't have the big time schools on our roster, but what we do have is a quality group of guys who will play with a chip on their shoulder. Not only do they want to prove something, but they also want to put a product on the field that the residents of Dubois County and the fans of the Bombers can be proud of."
The Dubois County Bombers are members of the summer collegiate Prospect League. They play a 56-game league schedule, with their first game to be played on June 2nd at League Stadium in Huntingburg.
