Central Illinois Drive News Release
Bloomington, IL, 3/17/12 - The Central Division Champion Central Illinois Drive, presented by Sonic, beat the Indiana Diesels 133-81 Saturday afternoon. The 52 point differential was the largest for the Drive this season. They move to 16-1 on the season and are currently tied with the Rochester RazorSharks for best record in the PBL. Jemal Farmer led scoring with 26 points. Todd Peterson had 19 points went 6-9 from three-point range with 9 rebounds. The team shot 53.06 and went 19 of 37 from three point range. They made 10 of 12 free throws.
Both teams came out with some scoring in the 1st but the Drive appeared to have more control of the flow. When on offense the Drive did a good job of spreading out the Indiana defense to get open scoring chances in the lane. The Diesels had a couple near breakaways but the Central Illinois defenders got back to do their job. Todd Peterson hit 4 three-pointers in the opening quarter to give the Drive a 30-22 lead.
Things kept going well for the Drive in the 2nd quarter as they opened with a 9-3 run that opened up to a 13-5 run. The smart play continued as Central Illinois kept forcing turnovers and setting up easy scores. While it was only a 29-24 quarter in favor of the Drive, it once again seemed like they controlled the flow of the game. At halftime the Drive led 59-46.
Offense was the story of the 3rd quarter for Central Illinois. What started as a 17-4 run turned into a 38-11 quarter for the Drive. At one point the Drive scored 20 unanswered points. Jemal Farmer was leading the way with 26 points with through three quarters. His previous highs were 24 points on Feb. 4 at Indiana and 17 points on Feb. 23 at Chicago.
After the 3rd the Drive were up 97-57.
It was more of the same in the 4th quarter. Coach AJ Guyton got his bench some playing time and they did their job padding the lead. The Drive out scored Indiana 36-24 in the quarter.
Box score he Drive are at home next weekend as they take on the St. Louis Phoenix Friday at 7:05 pm and the Indiana Diesels Saturday at 1:05 pm. Saturday is the final home game of the regular season.
