Central Illinois Drive News Release
Columbus, IN, 1/29/12 - The Central Illinois Drive, presented by Sonic, made things interesting at the Indiana Diesels by almost blowing a 21 point lead. They would eventually win 87-84. With the win the Drive move to 6-0 and are still the only perfect team in the PBL.
Unofficially Rodney Edgerson led the Drive with 24 points. Jemal Farmer had 16, Perry Petty had 12, and Todd Peterson had 11.
The 1st quarter and first half went very well for the Drive. Indiana took a four point lead to start the game but Central Illinois came back to take the lead and did not look back throughout the half. After the 1st quarter the Drive led 27-19.
The 2nd quarter was even better for Central Illinois as they continued to stretch the lead. The Drive pushed the lead to 16 points with around five minutes to go. Nothing seemed to stand in the way, not even a blown dunk by Rodney Edgerson. He managed to tip the ball in while hanging on the rim after missing the dunk, but the referees waived off the basket. Central Illinois would eventually end the half up 44-31.
The Drive had everything going in the 3rd as they extended their lead to 21 points. It was their largest lead of the day. Coach AJ Guyton decided to let the starters get a little rest in the quarter as he let his bench get some playing time. The Drive ended the quarter up 68-52.
The 4th quarter did not go well at all for the Drive as they let their lead slip to only five points with under 10 minutes to play. Jemal Farmer ended an 11-0 run by the Diesels with a one handed dunk to help keep the Drive ahead. The Diesels would hang in there but the Drive held onto the lead for the win 87-84.
The Drive continue their three game set with Indiana next weekend. They are back in Indiana on Saturday Feb. 4 at 3 pm and the Diesels will be in Bloomington on Super Bowl Sunday at 2:05 pm. The game should give fans something exciting to do before getting ready for the Big Game that night.
