Greenville Drive News Release

Greenville, S.C. - It was a long and hard process, but after more than 250 entries were judged by a panel consisting of members of the Greenville media, Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center (GHS) and the Drive front office, the winner of the Greenville Drive and GHS' "Create-A-Jersey" contest has been announced.

Will Carlton, who will be a sixth grader at Hughes Academy in Greenville, has been declared the winner with the Greenville Drive wearing his jersey design during the Sunday, July 20th game at Fluor Field against the Hagerstown Suns.

"We want to thank everyone that participated as the number of creative designs was tremendous," commented Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "It was a very tough decision, as there were so many unique designs to choose from. But in the end Will's design prevailed."

The winning design is a white jersey with green piping around the neck and sleeves, depicting the Green Monster on the front. The left sleeve will feature the word "Drive" in green lettering, while the right sleeve will have the Drive insignia. The back of the jersey will have the player's number in green lettering with a black border, and say "Fluor Field" in the same format above the number.

Not only will the Drive wear this unique, one-of-a-kind jersey on July 20th, but fans will be able to walk away with one as they will all be auctioned off during the game. The bidding for each jersey will begin at $100, with $20 increments, as all of the proceeds will benefit the GHS Children's Hospital Virtual Toy Drive, which provides toys and other items to pediatric patients during their stay at the hospital.

In addition, a traditional Drive home jersey which has been personalized by patients at GHS Children's Hospital and signed by the entire Drive baseball team will be auctioned off as well. Bidding for this special jersey will begin at $200, with $20 increments.

"We greatly appreciate the Drive's support of our Virtual Toy Drive," said Dr. Bill Schmidt, medical director of GHS Children's Hospital. "If enough funds are raised through the Create-a-Jersey Contest and Virtual Toy Drive, we plan to purchase a Vein Viewer for Children's Hospital. A Vein Viewer is a new device that uses infra-red technology to illuminate hard-to-find veins to prevent multiple needle sticks. While a device like this isn't necessary for medical treatment, it certainly makes coming to the hospital a lot less scary and painful for our youngest patients."

Fans can still support the GHS Children's Hospital's Virtual Toy Drive by logging onto the Drive's website (www.greenvilledrive.com) and clicking on the Virtual Toy Drive logo. Once there you can purchase toys for patients or make monetary donations.

"The partnership that the Drive and Greenville Hospital System have developed is something that we are extremely proud of," added Drive Co-Owner and President Craig Brown. "It is partnerships like this one that enable us to devise and enable programs like the Create-A-Jersey contest to make a difference in the quality of life of others."

The Greenville Drive is the South Atlantic League affiliate of the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox. Ticket plans, hospitality accommodations, group outings, and single-game tickets can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
