April 7, 2012 - Premier Basketball League (PBL) - Central Illinois Drive News Release

Bloomington, IL - The Central Division Champion Central Illinois Drive, presented by Sonic, will play for the PBL Championship after sweeping the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Steamers in two games. The Drive won the series at home Saturday night with a 125-108 defeat of the Steamers. Seven Drive players had double-digits in points scored. Jemal Farmer and Rodney Edgerson led scoring with 21 points. Farmer recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds. The Drive shot 55.6% overall and made 7 of 21 three-point shots. They were 28 for 37 at the free throw line.

The Drive fell behind early in the 1st but not by much. They quickly turned it around and took the lead. Some of the hard feelings from game 1 seemed to carry over for the Steamers and they were a little undisciplined with the ball. The Steamers forced shots that missed while the Drive were more patient. Daniel Ruffin, who started for a suspended Perry Petty, made an excellent steal for a breakaway layup on defense. Petty was suspended one game as part of the scrap in game 1. The Drive led after one quarter by a score of 24-19.

The Drive offense took off in the 2nd quarter. At one point they opened up a 20 point lead. The team was focused on making precision passes and spreading out the Steamers' defense. The Drive did their job on defense as well, forcing the Steamers to take tough shots. The physical play continued between the two teams as well. With a 44 point quarter, the Drive led 68-52 at halftime.

Neither team ran away offensively in the 3rd quarter. It was only a 29-25 quarter in favor of Central Illinois. The Drive were more focused on defense to start the half and the Steamers showed frustration. As the quarter wore on the Drive began to take control again and kept pushing their lead. The Drive led 97-79 entering the final quarter.

The Drive kept things calm in the 4th quarter. They once again kept focused on defense and closing out the game.

Early in the quarter Central Illinois pushed their lead to 28 points. It was their largest lead of the game. From there they were able to hold off the Steamers and close out the hard fought win.
