Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers today released the promotional schedule for their 2016 season. The upcoming year promises to be a special one as it marks the 40th season the Drillers have played in Tulsa. And the team will be celebrating with special promotional giveaways and fantastic fireworks shows throughout the season.
FIREWORKS
Post-game fireworks will once again follow every Friday night home game this season, along with 5 select Saturday, 2 Sunday and 1 Monday home games. There will also be a first-ever, Thursday night fireworks display after the game on June 9, making a total of 19 total Fireworks games in 2016.
In addition to the displays already mentioned, there will also be special back-to-back-to-back fireworks shows for the Memorial Day weekend May 27-29 and the Labor Day weekend September 3-5.
While fans have learned to stay late for the fireworks shows at ONEOK Field, this year's promotional giveaways will give Drillers fans plenty of reasons to come early!
GIVEAWAYS
Fans will not have to wait long for the first promotion and giveaway of the year as there will be the annual, pre-game Opening Night Parade on Thursday, April 14, while the first 5,000 fans who attend the opener will receive the Ultimate Rally Towel.
Following on the heels of the Rally Towel giveaway will be the popular Hornsby Build-A-Bear giveaway on Saturday, April 16 for the first 1,000 kids aged 14 and under. This year, Hornsby will be rockin' his light blue jersey!
The Drillers will continue to remember past players who have gone on to success in MLB on Saturday, May 14. Leading up to a rare, Saturday 12:30 PM day game due to ONEOK Field hosting a Bedlam game that night, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will receive a Nolan Arenado bobblehead. Arenado's Silver Slugger and three Gold Glove awards will be featured in the design, making it a true collectible item!
After hosting the annual OU v. OSU Bedlam games on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 the Drillers will give fans the opportunity to show their support for their favorite school on Oklahoma Strong, College Rivalry Night on Thursday night, May 26. There will be 500 red and 500 orange Drillers-themed jerseys given away, letting all true OU and OSU supporters show their school pride while cheering on the Drillers.
Highlighting the 40th anniversary promotional slate will be a special appearance at ONEOK Field by the 1999 American League MVP and Drillers alum Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez on Thursday, June 23. The day will be highlighted by a Throwback Pudge Jersey Giveaway with a special 40th anniversary patch for the first 1,000 fans through the gates. Be sure to be in attendance as a special pre-game ceremony will welcome Pudge into the Drillers Hall of Fame.
Moving into July, the 5th annual Mickey Mantle Day will be a game that fans won't want to miss! On Saturday, July 9 the Drillers will again honor the iconic, Oklahoma-born Hall-of-Famer by distributing a special, gold-colored, Hall-of-Fame commemorative ring to the first 1,500 fans with a paid admission! Mickey's sons David and Danny Mantle will be at the park to sign autographs, tell stories of their father and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
As the summer begins to wind down and the season comes down the stretch, there will be several giveaways to help with the transition. On Saturday, July 30 the team will help kids go back to school in style with a Drillers lunch pail for the first 1,000 kids aged 14 and younger to arrive.
Back by popular demand will be our annual OKC Thunder Night on Saturday, August 13 where fans will be entertained by the Thunder drummers, the Storm Chasers, and friends. Plus, the first 1,500 fans will receive a special edition OKC Thunder and Drillers giveaway item!
These are just a few of the numerous giveaways scheduled for the year. Stay tuned for details on each of the promotional items throughout the season.
DAY GAME ACTION
The always popular Day Baseball action will be returning to ONEOK Field in 2016! There will be five midweek, day games on April 18 at 12:05 PM, April 27, May 2 and May 9 at 11:05 AM and June 8 at 12:05 PM. The game on May 11 will also have a special Happy Hour start time at 4:05 PM with the first 1,000 fans to receive a Drillers Ozone Alert T-shirt.
Sunday home games will feature a slightly earlier start time in 2016 as those games will begin at 1:05PM. The earlier first pitch time will allow fans to enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the ballpark, including Mother's Day and Father's Day, while still leaving their evenings free for other weekend plans or to prepare for the upcoming week. The only exception to the Sunday afternoon times will be for the games on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Those two games will begin at 7:05 PM to accommodate the post-game fireworks shows mentioned above.
WEEKLY PROMOTIONS
Returning to the promotions lineup this season are the weekly promotions that have proven very popular, along with a few new ones to excite our fans!
All Sunday games will be Kids Eat Free Souvenir Sundays where all kids aged 12 or under will get a free hot dog, milk and piece of fruit. The days will also feature a souvenir giveaway to help ensure that the first 500 kids at the ballpark go home happy. These will include a Drillers-themed superhero cape, Drillers earbuds, a custom-designed Drillers baseball, Round 2 of the awesome kids Drillers socks that only the cool kids wear and much, much more!
New to the nightly lineup will be Anniversary Mondays where the Drillers will slow things down and throw it back to the way games used to be in honor of 40 years of Drillers baseball. Fans can expect to see old school logos, retro hats and video interviews with players from the past. These will be the perfect nights for the true baseball fan.
There will be 10 Tuesday night $2 Tuesday games, where lawn tickets and selected concession items, such as Dodger Dogs, Mazzio's pizza slices, cotton candy, small ice cream sandwiches, soft drinks and boxes of popcorn are all only $2 each! Wednesday nights will continue to be "Bark in the Park" nights! Fans can bring their canine best friend out for any of the 7 scheduled dog nights at the ballpark; provided the owners present documentation that their furry friend has received necessary vaccinations.
Finally, all Thursday games are Thirsty Thursdays, featuring $1 beers and soft drinks. Eight of these nights will also feature a premium jersey giveaway as part of our Jersey Thursdays. In addition to the Pudge and College Rivalry Jerseys, there will also be a green 1977 Throwback Jersey, a 2003 Throwback Jersey, a Nolan Arenado Jersey, a Corey Seager Jersey, a Julio Urias Jersey and a Margaritaville Night-themed Troy Tulowitzki Jersey, each of which will showcase a special 40th anniversary patch.
