Dragons win over Chicago

SAN JOSE, CA - It took 60:49, but rookie Mike Podgajny made sure the San Francisco Dragons (1-2) came away with the victory. Podgajny scored the winner 49 seconds into overtime to give the Dragons their first win of the season Saturday night.

The rookie from Notre Dame was the top pick of the Dragons (picked #7 overall) in the 2008 MLL Entry Draft a couple weeks ago, and had 5 points (2 goal, 3 assists) in his Major League Lacrosse debut for San Francisco. Attackmen Liam Banks (1 goal, 3 assists), Jake Byrne (3 goals, 1 two-point goal), and Lewis Ratcliff (4 goals) also led the way for the Dragons.

The Chicago Machine (1-3) trailed 11-5 midway through the 3rd Quarter, but outscored the Dragons 9-3 in the final 22 minutes including the game tying marker by Steven Brooks with 38 seconds left to play. Brooks recorded three points (2 goals, 1 assist), and brothers Kevin (4 goals) and Mike Leveille (3 assists) chipped in for 7 points to lead the Machine.

The Machine will head to St. Louis next Saturday to take on the Barrage (2-2), while the Dragons will go to the Mile High City to take on the Denver Outlaws (3-1).
