San Francisco Dragons News Release
Burlingame (CA) - The San Francisco Dragons (www.sanfranciscodragons.com) of Major League Lacrosse selected nine players in today's MLL Supplemental Draft. The first selection by the Dragons (1st round / 2nd overall) was veteran defenseman Mike Howley (Maryland).
Howley was a four year starter at Maryland and three time All American selection in addition to being on the 2002 USA World Team. A five year veteran of the MLL, he played his first three seasons with the Rochester Rattlers where, in 2005, he was selected to participate in the MLL All Star Showdown. Prior to the 2006 season he was traded to Baltimore and then the Long Island Lizards.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have a player of Mike's ability and background. We feel he will make an immediate impact for us in 2008" commented Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Locker. "Mike is a gifted lacrosse player and natural leader."
"I am extremely excited about being drafted 2nd overall by the San Francisco Dragons. The Dragons organization and I have a very similar vision for the 2008 MLL season and for the future of the franchise," commented Howley. "I am looking forward to helping provide leadership and MLL experience to a young, but very talented lacrosse team."
With their second selection in the first round (6th overall) the Dragons selected midfielder Ben Bailey (Navy). Bailey, a 2004 Naval Academy graduate was a 3rd team All American selection after scoring 20 goals and adding 3 assists on the year.
"We were extremely pleased with our draft this year and feel we took a big step in addressing our needs for the upcoming 2008 season," stated Locker.
