June 9, 2008 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
San Francisco Dragons News Release

Burlingame, CA - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending June 8, 2008, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. San Francisco's midfielder Mike Podgajny was honored as the Cascade Rookie of the Week. Additional awards went to Washington Bayhawks midfielder Kyle Dixon as the League's Offensive Player of the Week while Long Island Lizards midfielder Peter Vlahakis has earned the Defensive Player of the Week. Washington goalkeeper Chris Garrity was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week.

Making his Major League Lacrosse debut, Podgajny scored the game-winning goal in the Dragons' 15-14 overtime victory against the Chicago Machine on Saturday night. He converted a feed from Dragon's Captain Liam Banks just 49 seconds into the extra session as the Dragons snapped a two-game losing streak. Banks drew the Machine defense off their zone leaving Podgajny unattended at the crease. Taking one pump fake to move the keeper, Podgajny fired into the net giving the Dragons the win.

The seventh overall pick in the Collegiate Draft, Podgajny scored two goals with three assists in the victory and was also named as the Bud Light Most Valuable Player of the Game.

Podgajny was a two time honorable mention All American at Notre Dame University where he had 34 points (25 goals and 9 assists) his senior season, finishing his career with 68 goals and 36 assists in 53 games before being drafted in the MLL.

The San Francisco Dragons (1-2) are on the road against the Denver Outlaws (3-1) on Saturday, June 14. Game time is 7:00 PM MT. The Dragons/Denver game will be televised (tape delay) on Comcast SportsNet West (Comcast Sports Net West Channel 400, Dish Network Channel 409, Direct TV Channel 656) on Sunday, June 15 at 6:00 PM PDT.
