The San Francisco Dragons (3-6) had no problem controlling the Chicago Machine (2-7) Saturday afternoon at Kezar Stadium, as they ran away with a 21-11 win. The fog burned off as the offense heated up in a perfect San Francisco sunny day in front of 2,750 fans.
The Machine couldn't answer a 6-0 run by the Dragons in the third quarter. The rally totaled seven goals in a row, going back to the first half. Liam Banks led the push with three goals, two on power plays, and 1 assist in the third. Banks finished the game with five goals and one assist for 6 points.
The game started off back and forth with Banks scoring the first goal of the game, assisted by Ryan Powell. Greg Gurenlian added an unassisted goal and Chris Rotelli put in another in the first quarter.
Rotelli provided a key 2-pointer in the second quarter to make the score 7-5 in favor of the Dragons and give them the momentum to score seven in a row. Ryan Powell, returning from a back injury that had him out for a few weeks, scored a goal in the 2nd quarter with 4:46 remaining.
Hunter Lochte added a goal of his own, assisted by Powell. Powell finished with one goal and four assists, helping out his teammates greatly. In his second game with Dragons, Lochte had two goals and one assist. Jake Byrne contributed towards the end of the games with a goal and two assists in the span of one minute in the fourth and also had another goal in the third quarter.
Chicago fought back after San Francisco pushed out to a big lead. Mathew Karweck had three goals for the Machine, while Brad Heritage and Nicholas Schmidt added two each. The Machine fall to last place in the Western Conference and the Dragons have soul possession of third.
Matt Vallone was named the Bud Light MVP of the Game finishing with 19 saves for the Dragons. Every player for San Francisco had an impact in Saturday's game. Nate Watkins scored his first goals of the season, picking up two. Tim Truibig, Jarett Park, and Greg Rommel also had one goal apiece while Matt Alrich had a goal and an assist. Park and Gurenlian also picked up seven ground balls each. Goalie Matt Madalon got his first playing time this season in a Dragons uniform in the fourth quarter. He grabbed two saves on four shots attempted.
The San Francisco Dragons will head down South to face in-state rivals the Los Angeles Riptide Saturday July 28, at 7PM at the Home Depot Center. The Dragons will face the Machine once more this season on August 5th in Chicago at 12 PM.
