Columbus Riverdragons News Release

PETERSON READY TO GO CAMPING: Point guard Sean Peterson will be among the Riverdragons players and coaches on staff for the inaugural Riverdragons Summer Hoops Camp July 8-11 at Northside High School in North Columbus. Peterson is currently working on his game in Mount Dora, Florida. Located north of Orlando, Mount Dora is not only Peterson's hometown but also the spot where he has logged several pick-up games with Orlando Magic star Tracy McGrady. Peterson is looking forward to helping young players develop their own games this summer in Columbus. "It's exciting to have the opportunity to share what I have learned with young players who want to get better," said Peterson. "This will also be an opportunity to get to know a little better several of the kids who came to our games last season. It's going to be a fun time for everyone involved." The deadline for applications for the Riverdragons Summer Hoops Camp is Monday, June 16. For an application call (706) 225-1100 or visit www.columbusriverdragons.com. http://www.nba.com/nbdl/columbus/Riverdragons_Summer_Hoops_Camp-73747-97.html

MALONE TO PARTICIPATE IN CAREER DAY: This May, Riverdragons head coach Jeff Malone will share moments from his 20-year career as both an NBA player and a pro basketball coach with local students at Midland Middle School's Career Day. Coach Malone, who plans to return for his third season with the Riverdragons this November, will discuss the training and education that prepared him to become one of the top up-and-coming coaches in the pro game today. In his two seasons in Columbus, Coach Malone has lead the Riverdragons to a 54-52 (.509) mark, including a trip to the 2002 NBDL Semifinals in the team's inaugural season. Malone earned a bachelor's degree in political science at Mississippi State University where he also reigns as the school's all-time leading scorer. http://www.nba.com/nbdl/columbus/columbus_coach.html

STEMPIN SHINES: Riverdragons forward Greg Stempin is fine tuning his game this summer with the Adirondack Wildcats of the USBL in Glen Falls, New York. Through ten games, Stempin ranks second on the team in scoring (14.7 ppg) and second in three-pointers made (10 3FGM's). The 6-foot-7 swing forward from Toledo University has posted three 20-point performances thus far for the Wildcats, including a season-high 24-point effort May 2 in a win over Brooklyn. Four of Stempin's teammates in Glen Falls played for an NBDL team during the 2002-03 season including the Wildcats leading scorer Ime Udoka (N. Charleston), the team's leading rebounder Eugene Edgerson (Mobile) as well as guard Kevin Morris (Asheville) and forward Darrell Johns (Roanoke). The Wildcats are coached by Asheville Altitude assistant coach Michael Sanders. Sources close to the Riverdragons expect Stempin to earn an invitation to one or more of the annual NBA pro summer leagues running this June and July. http://www.nba.com/nbdl/players/greg_stempin.html

FLASHBACK: Quick Hits from the 2002-03 Season...

50 WAS REAL NIFTY: Although it took awhile to develop, the trend became undeniable: when the Riverdragons shot over 50% from the floor - they were literally unbeatable in 2002-03. The Riverdragons went 7-0 when they connected on at least 50% of their field goal attempts last season. The Riverdragons hot-streak from having the hot-hand included a convincing 98-81 victory over N. Charleston March 17 in which Columbus fired a season-high 57.4%.
