Dragons Captain Liam Banks Out With Injury

June 13, 2008 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
San Francisco Dragons News Release

Burlingame - The San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse announced today that attackman Liam Banks will be out indefinitely due to an injury sustained in the Dragons 15-14 overtime win over Chicago on June 7th. Banks will be flown back to San Francisco from Detroit on Friday morning where he has been for work commitments, and have surgery on Friday afternoon by Dragons Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Oberlander.

An MRI result on Thursday revealed a potential tear to his meniscus, and the exact prognosis will not be known until the procedure has been completed late Friday. Banks, a team captain, has been a mainstay on the Dragon's attack since being acquired in a draft day trade with New Jersey at the 2007 Collegiate Draft.

"Obviously having a player of Liam's caliber out of the lineup is a blow, however we are very hopeful that the results of the surgery will be positive enough to allow him to participate later in the 2008 season" commented Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Locker. "Liam is a very special person and teammate and has put everything he has into this team for the past two seasons."

"It's been a tough couple of weeks with injuries here as we have been without Sean (Lindsay) as well, but we have been really pleased and impressed with the way our guys have stepped up during this time." Locker continued.

The Dragons play the Denver Outlaws on Saturday in Denver at 7pm (MST), and then travel to New Jersey for a June 21st game vs. the Pride before returning home to face the Boston Cannons at Spartan Stadium on June 28th at Spartan Stadium.
