Dragons Announce Team Captains

SEATTLE - After each practice, the team gathers in the middle of the field for coach Jim Zorn to address them with news and notes before players head into the locker room to change and go back to the hotel.
On Monday, Zorn had a special announcement. The Seattle Dragons had voted on team captains and, before moving on with preparations for the season opener in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, it was time to share the news with the players.
Running back Kenneth Farrow was selected as the team captain on offense. Linebacker Steven Johnson was picked on defense. And, there was a tie for captain on special teams, so receiver Keenan Reynolds and long snapper Noah Borden will share the duties.
"It's always something you appreciate, because it comes straight from all your teammates," Farrow said. "That's something they recognize and it's an honor to be recognized by the guys you get to go out and play with."
Borden added, "It feels awesome. It kind of reinforces everything we've been working for. It just reminds me to keep doing what I'm doing. I must be doing something right, so I'm glad I've got the respect of my teammates. I've just got to keep working."
Reynolds, who voted for Farrow, said the running back was the perfect choice to be the offensive captain.
"Kenneth is just that type of guy, the way he carries himself," Reynolds said. "He's in the weight room early. He's just that type of guy."
Reynolds also said he voted for Johnson.
"Steve, he's the vocal guy," Reynolds said. "He's the one breaking us down all the time in the huddle, so it was a no-brainer for me on those two. And, I think Noah and I bring something unique from our perspectives as well as far as leadership."
Johnson thanked his teammates for trusting him to be a leader on defense, but stressed he believes there are plenty of qualified candidates to lead on the roster, which will benefit the team during the season.
"All in all, there are probably 52 leaders on this team, but the guys the team selected, those are guys who were vocal," Johnson said. "I try to do my part to get guys going when the energy is low. Little things like that can go a long way, especially in a tough game when we need to make a play, things like that go a long way.
"I'm excited, man. I'm getting ready for Saturday."
The four players chosen are familiar with being in leadership positions, in fact, Reynolds was a team captain at Navy his senior season.
"To be considered by my peers to be worthy of a leadership position, it's a blessing, something I don't take lightly," Reynolds said. "It's not my first rodeo, I was captain my senior year in college, so I understand what it takes to lead a team. I'm excited. I'm excited for this group of guys we've got."
The announcement of captains is another sign the season has arrived. With five days left before kickoff, the team is locked in on Week 1.
"It's time to rock and roll now," Farrow said. "Training camp, minicamp, all that's over now. Everything's on the line now."
