San Francisco Dragons News Release
San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Dragons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today they acquired New Jersey Pride defenseman Dave Stilley. In exchange, they sent midfielder Spencer Wright and the 43rd overall selection (5th Round) in the 2006 College Draft to the Pride. Stilley will enter his fifth MLL season this summer and has played in 47 games for New Jersey starting in 2001. Over his four-year career with the Pride, he grabbed 69 groundballs while scoring 2 goals and 2 assists, and served as a team Captain in his last two seasons.
"Adding a player with Dave's experience and leadership to our team is a big plus as we prepare for our inaugural season" commented General Manager Doug Locker. "Dave is a fierce competitor who has been successful at every level of the game, and we were very fortunate to get him to San Francisco."
Stilley graduated from Duke University (1997) where he was a First Team All American and the team's Defenseman-of-the-Year in his senior season. A nine-year veteran of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) indoor league, he currently plays for the Colorado Mammoth. Previously, Stilley earned two NLL Championships with the Philadelphia Wings.
Spencer Wright has played three seasons in the MLL. Over his career with Rochester (2003, 2004) and New Jersey (2005) he played in 15 games and scored 9 goals and added 8 assists. Wright was drafted by San Francisco in the 10th Round (39th overall) from New Jersey in the 2006 Expansion Draft. "While it was tough to trade a player of Spencer's caliber, the move allows each to play closer to home, with Spencer currently living in New Jersey and Dave in Denver," said Locker.
