Dragons acquire pair from Los Angeles

San Francisco Dragons News Release


San Francisco - San Francisco General Manager Doug Locker announced today that the Dragons have acquired goalie Matt Vallone and midfielder Steve Vallone from the Los Angeles Riptide. In addition, the Dragons received LA's 2nd round 2007 Collegiate Draft Pick (#16 overall) and a conditional 2008 Collegiate Draft Pick. San Francisco sends its 1st round 2008 Collegiate Draft Pick, its 2007 2nd round Collegiate Draft Pick (#17 overall), Xander Ritz and Alex Cade to the Riptide.

Matt Vallone joins the Dragons after appearing in 5 games with Los Angeles and posting an 8.99 goals against average and a .727 save percentage. A 2001 graduate of Penn State University, he posted a .610 save percentage as a senior good for 11th in the nation. He was also selected as the Nittany Lions Most Valuable Player. Steve Vallone played in 7 games for the Riptide scoring 5 goals (2 - 2 pointers) and 2 assists for 9 points. A 2004 graduate of Syracuse University, he finished his senior year with a career high 35 points (22 goals and 13 assists) and was a 2nd Team All American selection.

"We are very happy with Alex Cade and everything he did for us last season, but we think in acquiring Matt Vallone we now have one of the elite goaltenders in the MLL" commented Head Coach Brian Silcott. "Matt and Steve are both big strong athletic kids and I think that adding them to our roster immediately makes us a stronger team" Silcott continued.

"Trading Alex and Xander was a very tough decision for our organization and for Brian and I personally. In the end we felt that the opportunity to acquire players with the potential of Matt and Steve was something that we could not pass up" commented Locker. "Matt and Steve live in San Franciso and we are excited that they will be representing the city that they live in" continued Locker.

The San Francisco Dragons open training camp on April 28th and 29th at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.
