Double Trouble as Twins Prepare for Home-and-Home Series
June 2, 2003 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA)
San Diego Spirit News Release
Saturday marks the first Spirit-Charge meeting of twins Ronnie and Lorrie Fair, who faced each other numerous times over the past two seasons while Ronnie was playing for the New York Power. Ronnie attended Stanford University while Lorrie attended the University of North Carolina and they have not played together on the same team since May 9, 1997, when they became the first twins, and first sisters, to play for the U.S. Women's National Team, appearing against England at Spartan Stadium. The two also played together on the U.S. Under-20 Nordic Cup Teams, and before that played club soccer together with the Sunnyvale Roadrunners. This is also the first leg of a two-week home-and-home series between the clubs. San Diego will be at a slight disadvantage over the two games, playing without Julie Fleeting this weekend as the Scottish striker is in Portugal playing with her national team in European Women's Championships qualifying, and will be without all their U.S. Women's National Team players on June 14 at Philly as the USA plays that same day. The matches are vital for the Spirit's race for the playoffs as they have been "Team Tied" as of late and need to win at home.
