Detroit Shock News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich.-On Sunday, August 21 when the Detroit Shock welcome the Washington Mystics to The Palace, the Shock will also host a very special guest: Nick Jr. character Dora the Explorer. The game tips off at 5:00 p.m., with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. Shockfest will begin at 3:00 p.m. in The Palace parking lot.
Dora will be available for pictures before, during and after the game and the first 2,500 children (14 and under) through the door will receive a Shock blue drawstring backpack, courtesy of Accident Fund.
Dora the Explorer, one of Nick Jr.'s most popular television characters, is a seven-year old Latina, who uses various problem-solving techniques to eliminate problems. The show, which targets children ages two to seven, allows children to become actively involved in the show through talking, clapping, counting, and even speaking Spanish.
This game also marks the final Dad and Daughter game of the season. For a reduced ticket price, fathers and daughters can take part in a dribble, pass, and shoot obstacle course, participate in a pre-game meeting with Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer or Assistant Coach Rick Mahorn, and have the opportunity to meet one of the Shock players after the game.
The Shock are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference (12-14) and trail the New York Liberty by 1.5 games for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East.
Lennox is the presenting sponsor of the Detroit Shock 2005 regular season. For more information on Dora the Explorer's visit or Dad and Daughter Day or to purchase tickets for upcoming Shock home games, please contact The Palace at (248) 377-0100 or visit www.detroitshock.com.
