Cleveland City Stars News Release

The Cleveland City Stars are giving the fans a chance to support two of the team's great partners in Charter One and The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio.

Together, Charter One and the Salvation Army have launched Tools for School, an initiative to collect new school supplies for more than 2,500 greater Cleveland children. The program is aimed at making back to school a more exciting event this year for disadvantaged children.

Pencils, paper, folders, glue, safety scissors and a variety of other new school supplies may be dropped off at Charter One branches in Cuyahoga County between July 7 and August 4.

The supplies will be used to fill 2,500 new backpacks purchased with a grant from the Charter One Foundation. The backpacks will be distributed to elementary school children in greater Cleveland through The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio.

As a convenience to the great fans of the City Stars, bins will be placed at the front gate of Krenzler Stadium during the next two home matches on July 12 and July 26. Fans wishing to make donations to the Tools for School program may simply drop the items in the bins on their way to watch the City Stars.

"Many of us are fortunate enough to remember the feeling of excitement and anticipation that came every summer from preparing to return to school," said Randy Stickler, President of Charter One, Ohio. "Unfortunately, there are thousands of local children who never know that feeling because for them, school supplies are a luxury. Charter One hopes to make going back to school a little more exciting for more than 2,500 children by giving them the tools they need to succeed in school this year."

"Whether or not a child has the necessary supplies can have a direct impact on a child's performance in school. Through this partnership with Charter One and the generosity of the community, this campaign will go a long way toward getting the school year off to a great start," said Philip Mason, Director of Development at The Salvation Army of Northeast Ohio.
