Dominant Rattlers Retake No. 1 in Latest AFL vPower Rankings
May 26, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL) News Release
CHICAGO - The Arizona Rattlers (10-0) reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the latest Arena Football vPower Rankings, as tabulated on AFLFieldPass.com, following a 70-25 victory over the LA KISS (2-8) in Week 11. Arizona moved within one win of the AFL record of consecutive victories to begin a season, set at 11 by the Orlando Predators in 1994. The Rattlers can clinch the West Division championship and secure a first round home playoff game in Week 12 with a win or LA KISS loss. Arizona hosts their longtime rival, the San Jose SaberCats (7-3), at 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 31 in "NET10 Wireless Arena Football Saturday" action on CBS Sports Network. The SaberCats, who come in at No. 3 in the vPower Rankings this week, are on a five-game winning streak after knocking off the Spokane Shock, 52-34, last week.
The No. 2-ranked Cleveland Gladiators (9-0) rallied from 17 points down with 52 seconds to play to defeat the Philadelphia Soul (5-5), 54-52, and remain undefeated in one of the most dramatic games in AFL history last week. The AFL's version of the "Kardiac Kids", Cleveland has collected three wins this season on the final play of the game. The East Division-leading Gladiators will attempt to stay perfect and complete the season sweep of the Pittsburgh Power (7-3) on Saturday. Pittsburgh also enjoyed a photo finish in Week 11, defeating the Orlando Predators (6-4), 62-61, on the final play from scrimmage. Kickoff for the Week 12 matchup is set for 5:00 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
The Iowa Barnstormers (5-5) jumped up three spots to No. 5 in this week's vPower Rankings following a 50-41 victory over the New Orleans VooDoo (2-7) in Week 11. Iowa is the third East Division team in the Top 5 of this week's Rankings. The Barnstormers return home this weekend to host the No. 6-ranked Orlando Predators. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET on ESPN3 this Saturday.
